Green Gully Grail Chapel

A Johannine Bush Church for Ministers Ken and Dianne.

Nestled into the hill side over-looking a dam and the surrounding bush, this construction has truly been a labour of love. Built over a decade from mainly recycled and locally sourced materials, the main tapered, external Circular form was inspired by the embracing arms of St Peters Square and is co joined by a smaller circular form that has its own centre eccentric too the main form. The smaller circular form is expressed both externally and internally, and houses the Pulpit.

The Tapered Circular exterior, is broken by angled wings that flank the 120 degree glazed northern aspect and help define the eastern and western entry and exit, and shades the arc of glazing from the low sun. The entry and egress celebrates the sunrise and sunset and symbolizes the cycle of life.

Blessed with the abilities of Drew Marshall of Terra Thunder and Stephen Rowe of Bent Ironwork and  Alistair Maxwell now deceased, all of whose skill and perseverance made this building as extraordinary as it is.

The roof is a suspended slab that seconds as a roof deck, accessed via a curved steel staircase. The overhang of the roof deck over the northern windows, provides an eave that shelters the interior from summer sun until the equinox.
